FOSTERING

Picture
Who can I foster?
We are a foster based program. All of the dogs and cats we rescue need to have a home for us to put them in before we can take them. Most of our fur babies are ready to be adopted immediately. Sometimes there are animals that aren't yet ready for our adoption program, like puppies or kittens under eight weeks old. Sometimes, animals get sick or injured and need special care. That’s when our Foster Care program volunteers swoop in to save the day.

How It Works
We receive a dog or cat, the call goes out to our list of foster care volunteers. The first willing foster home will pick up the animal, along with all available information and supplies. The animal goes to the foster home until they find their furever home (Typically between 2 to 6 weeks). You may need to bring the animals to the vet periodically for medical check-ups. We have 2 adoption events a month. We ask that you commit to bringing them to at least 1 event a month. The animal gets adopted. The animal lives happily ever after.

What are the benefits of Fostering?
1. Lots of snuggling and kisses
2. A temporary pet that will always be grateful they got a second chance.
3. All food, veterinary care and care items are provided for your foster by the rescue.
4. Did I say snuggles and kisses yet? It’s an important benefit.
5. You get a chance to socialize with an awesome, supportive group of people.
6. Lots and lots of kisses

Become a foster today! Just fill out the adoption application on our website and put foster in the notes.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long do animals need to stay in foster care? The typical foster stay is two weeks to six weeks, depending on the needs of the individual animal(s) in your care. The time frame of each foster situation will be discussed with you ahead of time.

What kind of animals need foster care? All of our dogs, cats, puppies and kittens under two months, mothers with nursing litters, dogs or cats with medical conditions or injuries, and special needs animals. We are a foster based program so any animal that we take in must have a foster home to be placed in.

Can I become a foster volunteer if I have pets of my own? Yes, we welcome pet owners as foster volunteers. Please keep in mind that there is always a health risk when exposing your pets to other animals in any setting. However, the risk is minimal if your pets are vaccinated and in good health.

What expenses are involved in foster care? Foster families provide housing. We provide the food, bedding and toys for the animals in their care. Foster parents also provide exercise, socialization, and lots of love! THGF provides all medical care for the animals in foster homes, including vaccinations, spay/neuter surgeries and medications.
